A BIG MONSTER HIV & AID’S
I would like to talk about this issue because it has been really important today’s in our society. HIV and AID’S have a big impact in the world. Also, because has a big impact in the teen society, it is why is very important to me because as the time is passing I want to work in some future on this profession. I would like to work more with teenagers who are the ones who don’t get serious responsibilities in their education on sexuality.
As I stated in my title that HIV and AID’S are a big monster is because I found that many people in our society stereotype this disease as a monster who eats all his good things inside them. So as I continue reading about this dangerous disease I learned every day in these issues, I think if we don’t do anything about it; it would be increasing every second and every second a person will be infected with some sexual diseases. It is sad how many ignorant people do not put attention what is happening around the world, with this big monster that is eating our entire world. Also “A Closer Walk” it has been a movie that impacts my life, I really recommend to people to buy it, that way they will understand the importance to get a test on HIV and AID’s diseases.
As Hispanic, I am worried about my society because HIV and AID’S are placed in the second place struggling with this type of diseases because every day these diseases are becoming an epidemic anyhow. First of all, HIV infection is not at all a problem of sex-alone. HIV can be spread through via various ways. Already, AIDS is a big problem in low class because as Prostitution it has been proved illegal in some countries, such as in India is illegal to have sex with a prostitute. In addition, I recommend all the people to get a HIV test.

ReplyDeleteI know that minorities and people with low income may be at an increased risk for infection. Lack of education and resources may contribute to this, but nobody is immune to this disease. The AIDS virus doesn’t discriminate based on race or wealth. Because of this, I think that it is necessary that we investigate exactly why certain groups of people are disproportionately becoming infected with this virus. One of the reasons for this may be culturally related. It is important that more attention is paid to ensure that information concerning HIV/AIDS is distributed in both Spanish and English. In addition, cultural differences that result in high risk activity need to be addressed and culturally sensitive educational programs need to be developed.
ReplyDeleteAfter writing this response I read an article about HIV immunity that is interesting. It seems that some people are actually immune to this virus. Researches are trying to figure out exactly why a small percentage of people are actually immune to HIV. Studies suggest that the beginning of AIDS immunity started centuries ago, before the disease existed. Ethic backgrounds and the illnesses suffered by ancestors appear to play a role in determining whether an individual is one of the lucky few that is immune to this disease. The most powerful form of resistance was produced by a genetic defect. It is limited to people with European or Central Asian heritage. Approximately 1% of people descended from Northern Europeans are immune to AIDS infection. They share a pair of mutated genes that prevents their immune cells from developing a receptor that allows the AIDS virus to invade the cell, like blocking a key from entering a lock. Total protection requires inheritance of the gene from both parents. However, just one gene from one parent will allow a greater resistance against HIV than other people have. Approximately 10 to 15% of those descended from Northern Europeans have this resistance (Dotinga, 2005).

This is an awesome video about research that is being done to try and copy this resistance.
